Industrial development on the Wupper
The power of the river played a key role in the industrialization of the region. Traces of the cloth industry, which replaced the iron industry in the 19th century, can be discovered in Dahlerau. A small town developed around the textile company "Johann Wülfing & Sohn" with its own railroad station, bathing establishment, stores and workers' housing estates. A museum offers insights into the history of the former "textile town", where a large number of smaller companies have settled since the textile factory closed in 1996.
Railroad history in a deep sleep can be discovered at Dahlhausen railroad station: Old locomotives, wagons and construction vehicles are being restored here by an association. The hiking trail ends at the Wuppertal dam, from the edge of the dam crest there is a regular bus service (line 671) back to the city center.
There are a total of five information boards along the way.
