metabolon combines games, fun and adventure with exciting facts about energy and waste.
During the transformation of the site into an environmental learning, research and leisure area, a mountain bike park, a cross golf course, a Segway course and a low ropes course were created. You can also go hiking on the former landfill site. The compost worm "Leppel" explains the environment to children along an energy trail. Younger children can also have fun on a long, curved slide (from 3 years).
The highlight for visitors is the 360-degree view from the top of the landfill mountain, which can be reached by climbing 360 steps. Small trampolines at the top invite visitors to get more active. On the way up or down, you can look into numerous garbage cans along the way and see or listen to all sorts of exciting things about waste - some garbage cans can even talk.
At the foot of the mountain, there is an exhibition on the subject of the "House of the Future" with a focus on energy efficiency and energy-efficient building renovation.
Refreshing drinks, coffee, ice cream, a daily changing lunch menu and other delicacies await visitors in the :metabolon bistro. The bistro is open Mondays to Thursdays from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm, Fridays until 1:30 pm with a daily changing lunch menu. During the vacations, opening hours are extended depending on the weather and also extend to the weekend.
The exhibition "Linear becomes circular - from knowledge to action" - located right next to the waste wall - invites both young and old visitors to interactively work their way from the linear world to the world of circular value creation using various exhibits and displays. With various products as examples of circular value creation in regional companies, the exhibition is an interactive highlight at the site and is open to visitors.
Public tours are offered every Friday, and groups can also book tours at other times.
Some leisure activities can only be booked at the weekend (Saturday/Sunday), as these correlate with regular waste disposal operations during the week. The viewing platform and the bistro can be visited every day during opening hours.
There is a charging station for electric vehicles at the Leppe/:metabolon main entrance to the waste disposal center in Lindlar.
