Opernhaus Wuppertal

Short facts

  • Wuppertal

Wuppertal Opera Entertainment at the highest level

It is home to opera, theatre and the Pina Bausch dance theatre: Opernhaus Wuppertal. Built in 1905, it was heavily damaged during Word War II and later re-built. Since 1989, the Jugendstil building with the imposing outer façade in the city district of Barmen has been a protected monument.
But it’s not just the building’s architecture that is impressive. The international ensemble also offers musical entertainment at the highest level. And is definitely worth visiting.
Come on in. Take a seat in the comfortable tiers and allow yourself to be enchanted. From classics like Puccini’s “La Bohème” and Donizetti’s “L'elisir d'amore”, which are part of the regular repertoire of the house. Famous musicals such as “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “My Fair Lady” are also on the programme.
The opera house was comprehensively renovated at the beginning of the new millennium. Fully overhauled. And equipped with state-of-the-art stage technology. The ceremonial re-opening took place on 18 January 2009. Since then, the house has been very popular with young and old with its varied offerings.
