Ostrich eggs in the Bergisches Land?
Klaus Stöcker has taken over his parents' farm and created ideal living conditions for the exotic poultry on around eight hectares of meadow.
The farm store sells feather dusters made from ostrich feathers, jewelry and lamps made from eggshells and leather goods such as handbags and purses. Stöcker also sells the meat, which is considered tasty, low in fat and high in protein.
In spring, over 150 ostriches live on the 12-hectare farm in Dabringhausen and from Easter onwards, offspring are born approximately every 14 days. Even the smallest ostriches can be observed from the 3rd day of life. And they will certainly also explain what the black chicks are all about. On the one-hour guided tours, you will learn everything you need to know about the fast-running birds and also pass by the bison enclosure, where the first offspring were born in 2017. All ostrich-related products are available in the adjoining farm store.
Opening hours/dates: updated every week on the ostrich farm website
If you would like to visit the farm, you can take part in a public guided tour. The dates for public tours can be found on the ostrich farm website. Registration is not necessary. The guided tours last 1-1.5 hours. Unfortunately, it is not possible to visit the animals without a guided tour.
Dogs are allowed as long as they do not disturb the group by barking continuously and their droppings are picked up.
Experience "Ostriches up close"
On this guided tour, you can share the ostriches' habitat for 60 minutes. You can enter the enclosure, explore the animals and watch them being fed. The minimum age is 8 years. A maximum of 6 participants can actively take part. Other people can watch from the fence. Further information about the offer can be found here.
