The audio guide is part of the Meander route and leads you for 10 minutes through the grounds of Windeck Castle ruins.
From Schladern station, which was awarded "NRW Hiking Station" in 2014, you hike towards Krummauel. The old arm of the Sieg river is home to many rare animal and plant species with its alder swamp forests, reed beds, and water areas. Soon you get a first view of Windeck Castle. Along the outskirts of Schladern, the path gradually ascends to the high-lying castle, which was once an impressive medieval complex. From its plateau, you have a great view.
The mobile guide starts at the information board on the west side of the castle ruins and ends at the top of the stair tower next to the large defensive tower.
At the foot of the castle hill, the Altwindeck museum village tells of life and work in earlier times. The route takes you through the village of Altwindeck towards Dattenfeld. From the outskirts, it goes up to Kolfenberg where you can rest near the shelter. After a steep descent to the river and crossing it, the path leads uphill again along the outskirts of Dreisel. Once at the top, you can enjoy the view back to the Dreisel village surrounded by wooded hills. It goes steeply downhill again over the Sieg to the Sieg waterfall. It was created during railway construction when a breakthrough was blasted in the rock. Here, the "Elmore’s" factory once settled to use hydropower for copper pipe production. In the area of the former shipping hall, which was converted into the Bürger- and Kulturzentrum kabelmetal, you will find the Nature Region Sieg Visitor Center, a beer garden, and an ice cream parlor. After a short stretch over the railway embankment, the tour ends at the station.
