Your starting point is directly at the hiking car park with a bathing area at the Dreisel Siegbogen. The ascent of the "Umlaufberg" Dreisel gets you going a bit right at the start of your circular route. Ages ago, the Sieg flowed around the present Umlaufberg until wind and water eroded so much soil and rock that a breakthrough formed. The Sieg diverted its course into the new bed – the old riverbed dried up. Once at the top, a short detour to a resting place is worthwhile, from which you can overlook the former river loop and the surrounding heights. After a gentle descent, the bleating of sheep and the lonely calls of circling buzzards accompany you in the former river valley. In the meadows of the old river arm, rare butterfly species such as the Small Blue (Wiesenknopf-Ameisenbläuling) find a valuable habitat. About halfway along the path, you reach the village of Helpenstell and from there turn directly to the opposite slope to walk back toward Dreisel. You stroll right along the edge of the forest and enjoy the view of the meadows, which are interspersed with old, overgrown orchards. After a short stretch through Dreisel and a subsequent ascent, the Sieg reappears and you follow its course back to the starting point.
