From Schladern station, which was awarded the title "NRW Hiking Station" in 2014, you hike towards Krummauel. The old arm of the Sieg River hosts many rare animal and plant species with its alder swamp forests, reed beds, and water surfaces. Soon you will have the first view of Windeck Castle. Along the edge of Schladern, the path gradually rises to the castle located at a high point. From its plateau, you have a great view. After a steep descent, a museum village at the foot of the castle hill tells about life and work in earlier times. Through the small village of Altwindeck, the route then leads you along quiet lanes towards Dattenfeld. From the edge of the village, the path goes up to the Kolfenberg; after a passage along open forest renewal areas, you can take a break at the shelter hut. After a steep descent to the river and crossing it, an asphalt path at the edge of Dreisel leads uphill again – here, too, a new generation of forest is growing on areas of former spruce stands. Steeply downhill, after crossing the Sieg River, you reach the waterfall. It was created during railway construction when a breakthrough was blasted into the rock to avoid further costly bridge constructions. The "Elmore's" factory once settled here: a hydropower plant once supplied electricity for the machines producing copper pipes. In the area of the former shipping hall, which was converted into the citizen and cultural center "kabelmetal," you will find the Sieg Nature Region visitor center, an extraordinary beer garden, and an ice cream parlor. After a short stretch over the railway embankment, the route ends at the station.
