From the starting point at the "Im Bungert" car park, you walk towards the town center. The Romanesque west tower of the St. Peter parish church helps with orientation. A look inside the church is especially worthwhile because of the frescoes from the 15th century. Opposite is the former "Hotel Glasmacher", which once became part of the local history as a muse's court for Rhenish artists. After a walk through the village, follow the red markings over narrow paths and stairs onto a ridge path. From the ridge, you reach a beautiful viewpoint in the forest, also used as a launch site by paragliders. The route then continues high above the valley, going uphill and downhill along sometimes very narrow paths on the hillside. Every now and then, you cross a small stream, mostly walking under a dense canopy of leaves. Soon you reach the "Düsseldorfer Hütte" - a lovely place to linger. After another path section, the route leads downhill again to the valley floor. After crossing the Sieg over the railway bridge, numerous steps help with the steep ascent. Once at the top, you hike on natural paths between orchards and pretty houses to a viewpoint with an impressive view over the valley. From there, a small street leads downhill and over a bridge to the idyllic Herchen spa park. You can relax on the lawns by the riverbank and visit the very nicely located cafés and beer gardens. Or how about a river trip in a pedal boat?
