WUPPER ADVENTURE TRAIL: HIKE PAST SOLINGEN LANDMARKS

It’s all about the river in the Wupper valley

Everything here revolves around it – the river Wupper. The focal point of this adventure trail is the longest river in the Bergisches Land. Sometimes it’s close enough to touch and sometimes it’s only visible from lofty heights. And time and time again, the rushing natural beauty is joined by a relic from a bygone era.

Past Solingen knife manufacturers

Many grinding stones line the trail and provide a reminder of the grinding trade that was once practised here on the river. At the picturesquely located Wipperkotten you can still get blunt knives sharpened in the traditional manner. And even watch grinders at work at Balkhauser Kotten.

From the gentle valley to wildly romantic hillsides

You are very close to nature in the floodplain of the river Wupper. The area is a paradise for rare animals and plants. You can enjoy a wonderful panorama high above the river on the Wupper mountains.

Nothing can top the view from your destination at Schloss Burg. This landmark of the Bergisches Land towers proudly 180 to 200 meters above the river Wupper.

Tip: Hiking works up an appetite. But don’t worry, you can enjoy typical Bergisch specialities along the way at Haus Rüden and the Gaststätte Rüdenstein and at the start and finish points.
