FAVOURITE CYCLE RIDE FOR FAMILIES: WITH A VISIT TO THE ZOO AND ARBORETUM IN WUPPERTAL

Animal encounters at the Green Zoo Wuppertal

You’ll love this cycle tour. Especially, if you have children with you. The start and finish of the route is the Green Zoo Wuppertal. This is one of the most traditional zoos in Germany, and one of the most scenic. The animals enjoy spacious outdoor enclosures here.

A tour highlight: Some of the views you get on this route are wild! The Sambatrasse runs picturesquely alongside the carnivore enclosure. Allow your gaze to wander. When you are on the “Tiger Bridge”, the big cats are right below you.

Cheek by jowl with redwoods in the Burgholz Arboretum

The route goes downhill from the zoo. Simply freewheel down this stretch and feel the wind in your hair. If you haven’t experienced this feeling already, your ride through the Burgholz State Forest will definitely be exhilarating. This is an extraordinary forest. The arboretum (arbor, Latin for “tree”) has exotic trees from all over the world, including giant redwoods and giant white cedars that grow here among native beech trees.

After a good 10 kilometres you arrive back at the zoo again, which is definitely worth a visit, and not only if you are with children.
