What you can discover at the German Blade Museum
From Stone Age knives to modern designer cutlery, samurai swords and polished daggers to delicate nail scissors – the Blade Museum in the former Augustinian monastery in Gräfrath presents sharp steel in all its forms and applications. The perfect craftsmanship of the workshops around Solingen has made the Blade City famous throughout the world.

The new permanent exhibitions are particularly worth visiting: ‘ME FECIT SOLINGEN – Blades:City:History’ explains why and how Solingen became the world-famous city of blades. A captivating presentation with interactive stations invites visitors to learn about the history of blades in Solingen from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. The exhibition ‘DRAGON AND MAGIC SWORD’ takes children on a fairy-tale journey through Solingen's blade tradition. At several stations, they can help the animals of the enchanted forest with their blade craft and finally wake the sleeping dragon.

Sacred artefacts await you in a side wing containing the monastery's church treasure. Precious gold and silverwork from the Gothic and Baroque periods bear witness to religious life in this former place of pilgrimage.
