Schloss Burg

Short facts

  • Solingen

High up stands this mighty castle complex. A Bergisch landmark. Top sightseeing destination and a journey back to the Middle Ages. Fantastic views included.

SCHLOSS BURG: BERGISCH LANDMARK

Back to the Middle Ages: As a guest of knights and ladies of the castle

The medieval fortress of Schloss Burg is located 110 metres above the Wupper in the Burg district of Solingen. It was once the ancestral seat of the Counts of Berg who gave the Bergisches Land its name. Today, it is the most popular tourist destination in the Bergisches Land.

Journey is the reward

A winding road leads up to the castle, on foot along narrow paths or you can make the ascent in comfort on the cable car. Let your legs dangle over the forest and the river Wupper, and enjoy the breathtaking view. You can of course take your bike (no e-bikes) with you!

Reward is the high point

Once at the top, you can be sure of a mediaeval atmosphere. And there’s lots to discover: the impressive ramparts, the Knights Hall, private apartment and the armoury. Knights festivals, mediaeval markets and bazaars bring history to life and make your visit an exciting journey through time.

Tip: The welcoming cafés and restaurants around the castle are great places to relax and have a good time.
