Schwebodrom

Short facts

  • Wuppertal

Suspension monorail experience | Schwebodrom Past, present and future immediately come together in the Schwebodrom. Originally known as “Zeitreise Schwebebahn”, the museum has recently been turned into a modern tourist destination for the whole family under a new name.

A 400-square-metre interactive world

The star of the show here is clearly the suspension monorail – the emblem of Wuppertal and one of the world’s safest modes of transport. All aspects of the elevated railway are brought together vividly in the Schwebodrom. For instance, the first stop on the journey – the multimedia show – details the history of the suspension monorail. You then continue to the suspension monorail exhibition with rare exhibits and historical original items. The absolute highlight then follows with a very special virtual reality experience. Take a seat in a first-series construction wagon and let VR technology transport you straight to 1929. Experience Wuppertal at the time of its founding on this unique suspension monorail journey and immerse yourself in the world of that time.

Tip: To perfectly round off the experience, you can take the modern suspension monorail along the same stretch that you travelled virtually.

Where is the Schwebodrom?

The interactive world is within immediate proximity to the historic Werther Brücke suspension monorail station in the Bamen district and can be reached easily with public transport and, of course, the suspension monorail. You can find tickets and more information at https://schwebodrom.com/.
