Katholische Kirche St. Agnes

Short facts

  • Eitorf
Part of the historical complex of Merten Castle is the former monastery church of St Agnes, a three-aisled Romanesque basilica from the second half of the 12th century, which can be seen from afar at a commanding height above the Siegtal valley. In 1699, a fire destroyed the entire monastery and parts of the church. It took 100 years to rebuild. After secularisation in 1803, it was the parish church for Merten and the surrounding area.

Access to the church via the inner courtyard or the castle grounds is restricted, please follow the instructions on site. The church is currently not open outside of church services.
