When people think of the Bergisches Land, many immediately picture green meadows, blue reservoirs, vast forests, rolling hills, and picturesque half-timbered houses… And that’s exactly what the Half-Timbered House Route combines, showing you the Bergisches Land at its most beautiful. The focus is on the half-timbered villages, most of which are very idyllic and somewhat tucked away. There, you’ll notice the jet-black half-timbered beams, the gleaming white walls, and the bright green shutters—the so-called “Bergisch Trio.” Away from the busy main roads, picturesque villages with their half-timbered houses—some of which are even listed as historic monuments—are waiting to be discovered by you. Over the course of 146 kilometers, you’ll have plenty of time to get to know the Bergisches Land—and especially the Oberbergisches Land—much better. In addition to the opportunity to enjoy a picnic while taking in one of the sweeping views, the local restaurants along the routes are always open to welcome you.
