Kangaroo cycle tour: Off to the so-called "bare" mountain! At the old castle site, there is an exciting journey through time in the town. Along the way through the Sieg floodplains, you can either swim or visit the Hennef climbing forest.
The entire route runs almost exclusively through green Sieg floodplains, the river is almost always in sight and offers not only a visual attraction and photo motif but also a wonderful resting place and experience space. In Siegburg-Buisdorf, you can watch the jumping salmon at the fish ladder and learn more about the journey of the salmon in the knowledge house of migratory fish. Enjoy a swim at the bathing area in Hennef-Weingartsgasse. Canoeists stop here to rest with their boats.
The next highlight on the route is the Allner lake, which is easily accessible via the Horstmann footbridge in Hennef. On the playground and lawn directly by the lake, you can play football, fly shuttlecocks, and of course swim in the lake.
If you prefer a little stroll, make your way to the nearby town center of Hennef. There is also a station with direct S-Bahn connection, and only about 3 kilometers from this point is the Hennef climbing forest. The facility consists of 14 courses of varying difficulty levels with many elements installed tree-friendly at heights between three and twelve meters. The climbing forest is designed for the whole family and offers ample challenges both for beginners and advanced climbers.
Further along the Sieg, you have several opportunities in Lauthausen to pitch your tent after an eventful day. However, Lauthausen is located on the other side of the Sieg. There is no direct bridge between the cycle path and the campsite. So, at junction 22, you have to leave the Sieg cycle path and then cycle towards Lauthausen. Various campsites are located directly by the water there. There is also an official canoe entry and exit point here.
Just four kilometers away, the town of Blankenberg awaits you. From afar, it can already be easily recognized from the bike by its landmark, Blankenberg castle. The castle complex with four towers and a city wall is well preserved. To visit it, you should park your bikes down by a mill and use the hiking trail. The road to the castle is very steep and narrow. For wine lovers, there is a small museum offering insights into the history of viticulture. A visit to the Katharinenturm informs you over four floors about the history of the town of Blankenberg, the town of Hennef, and the region. Children in Blankenberg can expect an exciting journey through time. Under the motto “Save the town of Blankenberg,” you can solve puzzles at eight stations around and through the town. The puzzle booklet is available for download but is also available on-site in the gastronomy establishments.
